This book examines literary developments within the field of
children's literature in Zimbabwe. While the book focuses on
different Zimbabwean creative writers of children's literature,
special attention is paid to Stephen Alumenda's work. The book
argues that Alumenda was a leading artist in Zimbabwean children's
literature. It examines Alumenda's contribution to the development
of children's literature in Zimbabwe. It also appreciates
Alumenda's sensitivity regarding the status of the girl child in
Zimbabwean society. The book places him within the larger context
of African children's literature, as well as contributions by other
practitioners within the field in Zimbabwe. It highlights how other
authors such as Stephen Chifunyise approach the theme of
didacticism, and how Jairos Kangira tackles the issue of gender in
children's literature.
