The three masses in this volume, all printed in the 1660s and early
1670s, provide fine examples of the mid-century "messa concertata "
in northern and central Italy. All three are written in the
concerted style, but each exhibits a slightly different aspect of
the term "concertata ." Furthermore, the composers represent three
different regions and their musical traditions: Budrio (near
Bologna), Novara, and Rome.
