Arthur Robert Hinks (1873 1945) was a renowned British astronomer
and geographer. First published in 1944, as the fifth edition of a
1913 original, this book was written by Hinks to provide a general
introduction to the study of maps and the surveying processes
through which they are made. The text begins with a brief history
of early maps, before moving through various types of modern map
and methods of surveying. Numerous illustrative figures are also
included. This book will be of value to anyone with an interest in
the history of cartography and geography."
