The American revolutionary war has ended and those who fought on
the British side must find new homes. Many make the treacherous
journey up the St. Lawrence and settle the land on the north shore.
With primitive equipment they clear the Ontario forest and sow
their crops among the tree stumps. Child brides work alongside
their callow husbands, sometimes questioning their choice to try
and tame this forsaken territory.
