This raucous comedy was one of the biggest surprise hits of 2009, and it's easy to see why. It has a largely unknown cast, and this works in favour of the movie. Another deciding factor which propelled this movie to true blockbuster status was the fact that it's just so darn funny!
The plot is also inspiringly original, as most "bachelor party" movies always focus on the actual night of the party, whereas The Hangover, as the title clearly indicates, instead focuses on the day after. And this is where the fun comes in, as our intrepid crew wake up so wasted that they can't remember a single thing from the night before. And they are forced into action to retrace their steps as they seem to have lost the bridegroom.
This wild comedy plays like a whacked out mystery, as we the audience are totally in the same boat as the cast, as each uncovered step reveals another hilarious episode of madness and wackiness which transpired on the night in question. And the cast are all in very fine form, with Bradley Cooper and Heather Graham being the most recognizable faces, yet it's some of the unknows like Ed Helms and Zach Galifianakis who get the best lines and therefore the best laughs.
The perfect movie to watch with your best mates, this is the funniest movie of the year. Fact! (5 out of 5, by Carlisle Johnson)
Two days before his wedding, Doug and his three buddies drive to Vegas for a blow-out night they'll never forget. But when the three groomsmen wake up the next morning with pounding headaches, they can't remember a thing.
Their posh hotel suite is beyond trashed and the groom is nowhere to be found. With no clue of what happened and little time to spare, the trio must attempt to retrace their bad decisions from the night before in order to figure out where things went wrong and hopefully get Doug back to L.A. in time for his wedding.
However, the more they begin to uncover, the more they realize just how much trouble they're really in.
