1904. Published after his death, this book was formed from the
greater portion of a series of papers the author evidently intended
to be the beginning of an exhaustive work on Shakespeare. One part
concerns the biography and family history of Shakespeare and the
various places connected with his name. The second part discusses
several historical studies relating to the sources and production
of "The Tempest." The editor has gathered the author's papers and
attempted to retain all that seemed ready for publication. The
editor's object is to present these papers in their true light as a
sound and weighty contribution to Shakespearean scholarship.
