The fifth outing in the 'Batman' movie franchise explores the
origins of the Batman legend and the Dark Knight's emergence as a
force for good in Gotham. In the wake of his parents' murder,
disillusioned industrial heir Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale) travels
the world seeking the means to fight injustice and turn fear
against those who prey on the fearful. He returns to Gotham and
unveils his alter-ego: Batman, a masked crusader who uses his
strength, intellect and an array of high-tech deceptions to fight
the sinister forces that threaten the city.

THE BEST AND MOST SATISFYING “BATMAN” PIC YET!
Apart from the action – and there’s plenty of it too – this movie answers all the questions you’ve ever wanted to ask about Batman…and settles several other issues that you’ve never even thought to query before. For example: why a BATman? And how/where did he learn and develop his seemingly effortless combat skills?
Christian Bale makes a most acceptable and convincing Batman – and his performance is well-matched by that of the irrepressible Michael Caine as Alfred, the Wayne household’s long-serving butler. As several critics have already noted: we seem to have “Alfie” playing Alfred! Liam Neeson is the young Bruce Wayne’s mysterious mentor, while Gary Oldman scores big-time as Tim Gordon – who was then only a police lieutenant (and still gets to drive the Batmobile!)
Morgan Freeman, Katie Holmes, Rutger Hauer and others round off the balance of what is an extremely well-chosen cast, while big guns Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard combine their musical talents to produce a dramatic background score that is well-worthy of Batman.
The clever ending, while complete in itself, points the way to unmistakeable things to follow. One anticipates a sequel of hopefully similar calibre.
