Model-Based Exploratory Testing (MBET) is a combination of
Model-Based Testing (MBT) and Exploratory Testing (ET) methods.
MBET takes advantages of both testing methods in an attempt to
achieve better coverage and defect detection compared with using
only one test method. MBET offers the automation advantages of MBT
but also incorporates the exploratory factor of ET in an attempt to
find defects which MBT might fail to detect. In this work, we
describe the combination of MBT and ET into MBET and layout this
new testing method. Also, an empirical study is included to show
the effectiveness of MBET compared to MBT. This study shows that
MBET and MBT are complementary testing methods and could
effectively be used in unison.
