The education of today's youth is an extremely important focus of
our society. The future economic and social quality of our nation
is dependent upon the quality of education our youth attain. One
aspect of our student population that is often overlooked are those
student's who are incarcerated. Across this nation there are
thousands of children who are confined to juvenile correctional
facilities for a plethora of reasons. Many of these children
exhibit disabilites and severe educational deficiencies. What are
the quality of special education programs within these facilities?
How do these programs meet the individual needs of students within
these unique environments? How are these programs evaluated and by
whom? Dr. Bailey's research sheds light into the dark and forgotten
world of juvenile correctional education for incarcerated
delinquents.
