Severance (DVD)

Touted as a British “black comedy,” this one is most certainly that, and more…though I feel that “horror-comedy” might be more appropriate in this instance. The slogan on the cinema poster that says “Another bloody office outing!” captures the mood of the whole thing rather well.

Members of the European Sales division of Palisade Defense – a British weapons-supplying firm – are being treated to a team-building weekend in the Mátra Mountains of Hungary. However, right from the opening credits we can see that what starts as an innocent fun exercise soon deteriorates into a desperate and vicious struggle for survival – against a ruthless team of Russian killers, who are armed with a whole arsenal of weapons that include machetes!

Yes, there are comedic instances as well. But if graphic disembowelling; the severance of limbs, and a few good decapitations are what it takes to get you going…then this one is definitely for you!

Suspenseful comedy thriller. Palisade Defense is a company that truly cares about its employees. When the company's European sales division exceeds expectations, the president decides that his dedicated employees deserve a relaxing, corporate team-building retreat. The trip takes a turn for the worst, however, when a deadly enemy infiltrates the retreat with the singular goal of ensuring that no one gets out alive.
