Derwent Blender pens are designed specifically for use with pencils; they allow the artist to blend away pencil lines, creating smooth, intense and even colour. Derwent Blenders work with both colour and graphite pencils. The blenders dissolve the wax found in coloured pencils to give a strong velvety finish.
More pencil layers can be added over the top of blended pencil to create different effects. This set comes with two pens; one 2mm and one 4mm. Use the smaller nib for fine detail and the bigger nib for large areas of colour.

Fantastic blender for all colour pencils!

Used it on Derwent coloursoft, Colleens, Faber Castell Polychromos and Lyra Rembrandt Polycolors. Blend all of these easily and smoothly. Much easier than with a blender pencil - no need to press down and therefor no hand strain, unlike with the pencil. Faster than blending with a blender pencil also. Very light fragrance. Only drawback (but not enough of one to lose a star) is that the pens are not refillable, so one has to buy new ones rather often. They do not last forever unfortunately, but the ease of use make when compared to a blender pencil that lasts about twice as long makes up for that. Loot really should keep these in stock, when I need a new set, I do now want to wait two weeks, but a bit of planning takes care of that also. Pens should be stored tip down otherwise it may seem that the pen runs dry when it's actually still fine. Make sure to clean the tip on a piece of paper when switching between different colours (like with all blenders)

The end of colour pencil layering problems

I am so glad I tried this. Perfect for someone who would like to achieve layers light over dark with colour pencil once the tooth of the paper had been filled.
I wouldn't recommend it for large areas but rather for selected areas you would like to add highlights or achieve a painterly blend.
Even works well on Derwent Black Hardback Sketchbook. Tested favourably with Derwent Drawing, Coloursoft and Faber Castell Polychromos.
