Pepsi purchased Mountain Dew from the Tip Corporation in 1964 and
began to take on additional bottlers. Pepsi-World was Pepsi's
monthly magazine to their bottlers and starting in 1964 they put
some very interesting articles about Mountain Dew in the magazine.
It was a way to show new Mountain Dew franchisees how current
bottlers were selling and merchandising the Dew. Meet the hillbilly
from Turkeytrot, Tennessee who pickets the Pennsylvania IRS office
with Mountain Dew in hand because they will not allow him to build
outhouses next to a plush hotel. See how the New York Mountain Dew
bottler drives a T-model Ford down the middle of New York with a
moonshine still onboard, handing out Mountain Dew samples. You will
view multiple pictures of old Mountain Dew advertising setups and
see how bottlers dressed up as hillbillies to promote Mountain Dew.
As an added bonus, the book contains three Ad- Promo books showing
all the early advertising items and signs available to the
bottlers. This is the first time that these books have been made
public since they were printed back in the 60's. This book isn't
for everyone, but if you are a Mountain Dew collector it is a must.
Many of the advertising pieces seen in the Ad-Promo books have
never been reported before and never seen by any collector. Check
it out, if you have some of these old unreported promo pieces, you
may have a valuable bit of history.
