Crochet patterns scatter when in sheets of paper; one can buy one
pattern on-line and the cost to print and mail it runs $6-$7. Free
patterns on-line are unformatted and difficult to follow. So have
consolidated and recomposed and colored this antheology of patterns
for basically the cost of printing. These 85 classic crochet
patterns have been collected from public and anonymous sources,
organized, re-structured for a consistent format and enhanced with
color for a permanent craft archive going back to the 1930s.
Traditional motif names are conserved for the expert or family
member who returns to old patterns to restore or recreate old
family heirlooms. These patterns cover tables, beds, altars and
chair sets, but no doilies. NOTE: Crochet stitches are knotted and
not woven, extremely durable--unlike knitting, which is soft and
pliable. Crochet is best for decorative elements (curtains,
tablecloths and bedspreads) due to their longevity and washability
subject to hard wear. This series of 8 volumes when completed will
include four for Crochet and four for Knitting, about 800 patterns
in all, a few dating back to 1850s. These are beautiful designs,
but practical too. The NEXT volume in the series will be Volume 5,
Emmie's Knitting for Babes to Tots.
