The Last King Of Scotland (DVD)

In this one, Forest Whitaker is Idi Amin Dada – and his acting performance earned him a Best Actor Oscar, as well as similar awards from The Golden Globes, Screen Actors Guild, BAFTA, New York Film Critics Circle, and several others.
Young Scottish doctor Nicholas Garrigan (James McAvoy) quits his father’s family practice to do a stint at a mission hospital in Uganda. Fate of circumstance causes him to treat Amin’s hand for a minor injury, and the dictator is impressed with the slightly-built doctor’s candor in standing up to him when Garrigan snatches the other’s firearm in order to kill a wounded cow that is suffering nearby.
Garrigan is promptly appointed as Amin’s personal physician and, later, adviser. We see the dictator as though through the eyes of the doctor; initially a benevolent and smiling if, at times, slightly confused Mr Nice Guy. But the picture slowly changes…and by the time Garrigan fully gets to understand what really is happening around him in Uganda, he himself has become a part of Amin’s corruption! He tries to flee the country, but is refused permission.
Director James MacDonald’s imaginative sound usage and brilliant photography serve to reinforce the unmistakably African atmosphere.

In an incredible twist of fate, a Scottish doctor on a Ugandan medical mission becomes irreversibly entangled with one of the world's most barbaric figures: Idi Amin.

Impressed by Dr. Garrigan's brazen attitude in a moment of crisis, the newly self-appointed Ugandan President Amin hand picks him as his personal physician and closest confidante.

Though Garrigan is at first flattered and fascinated by his new position, he soon awakens to Amin's savagery - and his own complicity in it. Horror and betrayal ensue as Garrigan tries to right his wrongs and escape Uganda alive
