He revisits the golden age of Titian, Veronese and Tintoretto; the 'Canalettos, casinos and the clap' of the eighteenth-century Grand Tour, and explains how Venice's magnificent art and architecture fuelled the building style of Europe before facing the city's latest threat: the sea.
