Charleston gold-digger operating in Dallas hits rock bottom before
redeeming herself in Ray's saccharine follow-up to Like the First
Time. Jana Franklin, beautiful, pampered playgirl, is on the
rebound from her third marriage, at age 32. Living in a cheap
Dallas motel when her money runs out, she must find a new sugar
daddy. This time, her past catches up with her. When she makes an
appearance at Priscilla Haynes's charity gala, sporting chipped
nail polish and outmoded dress, no one will come near her. Shunned
by society, and hungry, she faints in the upscale linen store
Midnight Dreams, owned by divorcee and single mother Olivia Maxwell
and her protective, handsome Texan brother Tyler. Although Tyler is
suspicious of this apparent street walker, Olivia is a Good
Samaritan. After getting Jana checked out of the ER by
devastatingly handsome Cuban-born Dr. Julian Cortez, who
subsequently develops a crush on Olivia, the Maxwells offer Jana a
place to stay and a job at the linen store. In effect, Jana is
granted a chance to turn her life around, and she mostly sticks to
the good path, occasionally getting frustrated when former
high-society acquaintances like Priscilla enter the shop and insult
her. Along the way, Julian pursues lonely, reluctant Olivia, who is
trying to be a good mother, while Tyler, the most honorable of love
interests, keeps a respectful distance from gorgeous Jana, whom he
has learned to trust in part because she gets along so well with
Olivia's young son. Bad girl makes good in this transparent,
unremarkable romance offering an uplifting Christian message.
(Kirkus Reviews)
Broke and licing in a rundown motel, Jana Franklin is now divorced
from Gray Livingston and struggling to survive as an outcast,
without friends or skills, until she meets Tyler, the first man she
has ever encountered whom she cannot fool, maneuver, or manipulate,
in the sequel to Like the First Time. Original.
