This Historic Resource Study is oriented toward the identification
and evaluation of the historical resources in the park to
accomplish compliance with the National Historic Preservation Act
and provides a basic reference for planners, managers, and
interpreters to facilitate the proper care and management of
cultural properties. Discussion includes European exploration of
the Seward peninsula, the coming of Americans, early missions, and
mining on the Seward peninsula. The National Park Service is the
U.S. federal agency that manages all national parks, many national
monuments, and other conservation and historical properties with
various title designations.
