IN compiling these pages use has been made of a number of valuable,
if partial, collections, such as Leydens Scottish Descn9tive Poems,
Chamberss Songs of Scotland prior to Bums, Patersons Ayrshire
Contempornries of Barns, Walkers Bards of Bon-Accord, and Harpers
Bards of Galloway, to say nothing of the collections of the
eighteenth century itself-Ramsays Evergreen and lea-Table
MsceZZany, Herds CoZZecton, and Johnsons Scots Masical Museunz, c.

possible, it has been found necessary to extend the work to two
volumes, CONTENTS. PAGE SCOTTISH POETRY OF THE EIGHTEENTHC ENTURY,
