Shortly after Glenda Wheatley had fulfilled her duties as the star
witness in the notorious murder trial that has Houstonians riveted
to their TV's, she had an opportunity to sell her business. She
immediately considers an early retirement. After all it's not that
early and she is really ready to lead a simpler, more relaxed life
somewhere far away from her unwelcomed fame. She decides to tour
the country, visiting all those places she always meant to see,
staying in various locations for days, or weeks or even months if
she feels like it, before finding the perfect place to spend her
twilight years. She sells her home, puts her furnishings in
storage, packs her car with the essentials and announces to all her
friends and relatives she'll be stopping by to visit them soon, and
heads out into the world at large. MURDER MOST MYSTERIOUS, the
first book in the Glenda at Large Mystery series catches up with
her when she arrives in a small beach town on Oregon's Central
Coast. She has agreed to house sit for six months while the owners
visit their children, in Greece. Glenda has a long bucket list of
things to do and places to visit in Oregon and expects to cross off
many of them while she's living there rent free. It's unfortunate
that two events threaten her plans and almost convince her to
abandon her commitment to stay before she even unpacks her car. The
first is her encounter in the thick fog on the beach that first
morning. When the figure first appeared she thought it was a pile
of rocks. Then it moved. The eerie voice insisted Glenda had been
sent to Perch Cove by the Spirit Guides even though Glenda knew she
actually came because of her agreement to house sit. The old,
strange woman introduced herself as Zylda, the Psychic, who lived
only a few houses away from where Glenda was staying. Glenda tried
to convince Zylda she had the wrong person, but when they parted
ways, she had reluctantly agreed to visit Zylda to discuss the
issue further. The second event was the murder discovered on the
fishing pier, beside Bill's Place where everyone hung out each
morning for breakfast. Perch Cove was a very small, picturesque
town perched on the bluff above the beach. It had no crime to
mention and it had never had a murder. Why now? Glenda had only
been eating in the restaurant. She tried to convince herself it had
nothing to do with her. The victim was a stranger in town. The
murderer was unknown. Still she was very tempted to forget about
unpacking. She could back her car out of the garage and be on her
way out of town with no one the wiser. If she could only forget her
promise to the owners of the house...
