This paper uses a limited number of marches made by the French
armies and covers the dismounted elements to determine the
distances marched and the time it required to complete the march.
The study illustrates conditions which existed at the time of the
march in connection with: 1.) size of unit, 2.) discipline, 3.)
morale, 4.) training, 5.) weather, 6.) conditions of roads, 7.)
supply, and, 8.) hostile opposition.
