paramilitary and political figures make clear that Catholicism has
helped shape republican paramilitary and political outlooks. This

though it strongly contributed to the development of the
Provisional Irish Republican Army (PIRA). Thus this is the first
book of its kind to trace the religious-paramilitary-political
