Even after Uncle Nacho's niece, Ambrosia, replaces his worn-out
hat, he has trouble getting rid of it. He is so loyal to the old
hat that there seems to be no way to discard it; when he tries,
people keep returning it to him. He does manage to give it to
another old man - only to have the recipient accused of theft.
Finally, wise Ambrosia suggests that he stop worrying about the old
hat and wear the new one. This engaging fable, derived from a
Nicaraguan folk tale, is appropriately illustrated in bold colors
and stylized forms that recall Central American folk art. An
entertaining story, doubly useful in this bilingual edition.

of his old one, but to no avail. No matter what he does, the pesky
hat keeps coming back to him. This classic folktale from the Puppet
Workshop of Nicaraguan National Television, vividly illustrated by
Mira Reisberg and presented in a bilingual edition, is a parable
about the difficulties of making changes and shaking off old
habits. The book includes an account of the origins of the story.
