His name is "D.C." - short for "Darn Cat" - the sleekest sleuth ever to grace the silver screen.
Hayley Mills stars as a young woman with an active imagination who contacts the F.B.I, when D.C. suddenly sports a wristwatch around his neck. She's convinced it's the tip-off to crack a baffling bank robbery and kidnapping case. Dean Jones is the allergic federal agent who sniffs around for clues only to find love in the air.
An impressive supporting cast - Frank Gorshin, Elsa Lanchester, Roddy McDowall and Ed Wynn - add to the nonstop zaniness.

That Darn Cat (original version)

Have you ever been owned by a cat? No, that'e NOT a typographical error...but nobody can ever be said to own a cat; its always the other way round! And if you are, or ever have been in that position, you'll know that nothing can ignore you quite as pointedly as a cat! “D.C.(that's short for “Darn Cat”) is just such an animal, being a Seal Point Siamese that has condescended to take up residence with two sisters, Patti and Ingrid Randall (Hayley Mills and Dorothy Provine. During one of his nightly rambles, DC discovers timid Miss Margaret Miller (Grayson Hall.) Margaret is a bank clerk, who is being kept hostage by two bank robbers: Iggy (Frank Gorshin) and tough Dan (Neville Brand.) In order to try to let the world that she is still alive and hopefully try to find her, she attaches her wristwatch around DC's neck. This trinket is totally ignored by Patty's boyfriend, Canoe Henderson(Tom Lowell,) and its only when it is eventually seen by Patti that she goes to see the FBI, and a young agent, Zeke Kelso (Dean Jones) is assigned to the case by trying to follow DC the following evening. It goes without saying that things do i>not go the way that Zeke and his men had planned! The hand-picked supporting cast includes Roddy Mc Dowall (as Gregory, a really pampered “Mama's boy,” and a wannabe boyfriend to Ingrid;) Elsa Lanchester (as “Nosey Parker” Mrs McDougall;) William Demarest (as long suffering Mr McDougall;) Ed Wynn (as a jeweller, who confirms the wristwatch as being that of Miss Miller;) and Richard Deacon, as the Drive-In manager. Its all marvellous family fun; but regretably the last of the six movies Hayley Mills made for Walt Disney.
