This publication presents the proceedings of an international
conference on remediation of radioactive contaminated sites with a
particular focus on the States of Central Asia. The conference
provided a forum for all parties involved in remediation of such
sites to gather and exchange ideas, review progress and new
developments, compare technologies and methods, and thus
disseminate information and experience. The key topical issues
identified and discussed by the participants included regulatory
and safety regimes, innovative and mature technologies, life cycle
planning, technical experience exchange, stakeholder issues, and
international cooperation and support. A series of case studies are
presented to provide an overview of environmental remediation
activities in different parts of the world. The publication
summarizes the present status, and outlines future trends in
environmental remediation technologies and methods, and identifies
possible areas for improvement.
