History books contain the core and contradictions inherent in
civics education and national identity. In this book, an attempt is
made to understand the nature of these 'self-proclaiming truths' as
they are taught to students at the secondary level. While it is by
no means comprehensive, it at least begins the closer examination
needed to first understand and subsequently break down the
artificially created borders of understanding that separate far too
many groups of people. While Canada and the United States are not
the ideal subjects to look at, one must begin somewhere. From that
point, discovery will be yield its own rewards as the reseacher
moves from one geo-political setting to another. We are far more
inter-connected than we are dis-connected.
