1897. The Massilia Sacrifice Tablet shows in its first two words
that it was intended for use in the worship of Baal; and as we know
that the Phoenicians came to Massilia from Carthage, centuries
before the time of Christ, we think it quite in the eternal fitness
of things that this Sacrifice Tablet should have been found in
Marseilles (Massilia) in 1844; our only wonder is that the tablet
remained undiscovered for 2300 or 2400 years. Illustrated.
