This is a celebration of women who, through their resistance,
creativity, and assertion of selfhood, have made a space for
themselves. The celebration of such lives stands as a beacon of
hope in the depiction of woman's place in a Jamaican society where
abuse, poverty, and abandonment are pervasive. Jean Goulbourne
articulates the grief, hopes, and unquenchable spirit of resistance
of black women in the Caribbean.
