words of reconciliation that Abraham Lincoln preached as he tried
to reunite a nation at the end of the American Civil War. However,
a group of Republicans - Radical Republicans - as they were called,
had anything but reconciliation on their minds. After Lincoln died,
they tried to punish the South for rebelling against the Union.
