Bolt (Blu-ray disc)

With the voices of John Travolta, Miley Cyrus, Malcolm McDowell and others, Disney Studios' 47th animated feature, received a deserved Oscar nomination - together with the Disney/Pixar offering Wall-E, that actually won the award.

Bolt (John Travolta) is a cute doggy android (Robopup?) that stars as the hero of a popular action kiddies' TV series. He's been interestingly programmed to believe implicitly that everything he does is completely for real...and so he naturally assumes that he really does have superpowers! In New York City, he somehow gets separated from his beloved co-star, Penny (Miley Cyrus), and the truth finally gets through to him! But he meets his "biggest fan" - Rhino (Mark Walton) and a friendly street cat in Mittens (Susie Estman); and during their adventurous journey together, he comes to realise that he doesn't need superpowers to sustain his hero image!

There are some musical interludes (nineteen, to be exact), but they are in no way obtrusive, neither do they slow down the story at all. The faultless 3-D animation is quite mind-boggling, and the colour used intelligently.

Verdict: a wonderful family film; well-worth seeing!

Bolt is the star of the biggest show in Hollywood. The only problem is, he thinks the whole thing is real.

When the super dog is accidentally shipped to New York City and separated from Penny, his beloved co-star and owner, Bolt springs into action to find his way home.

Together with his hilarious new sidekicks Rhino – Bolt’s #1 Fan – and a street-smart cat named Mittens, Bolt sets off on an amazing journey where he discovers he doesn’t need super powers to be a hero.
