In this special issue, contributors explore music’s place in
French politics, gender formation, social identity, and cultural
exchange, illustrating ways that music can and should be integrated
into French and Francophone studies more broadly. The authors
define music in the most inclusive way to cover art music,
religious music, and popular music, as well as its producers,
interlocutors, and audiences.
