This third chapter in Stephenie Meyer's supernatural romance saga is suprisingly enough, quite an improvement on the more morose previous installment,
New Moon. There's much more action, as well as more tension in the whole "love triangle" scenario between Bella, Edward and Jacob.
The increase in action is due to an army of "newborn" vampires who are on the loose, with an agenda which places Bella and the human inhabitants of Forks in grave danger. This leads to a mutual "pact" between the vampires and werewolves to stand together against the "newborns", but it's an uneasy alliance that gets seriously tested when Edward and Jacob vie to be Bella's main protector.
The plot offers some decent intrigue and suspense compared to New Moon, so that's already a bonus. Plus the action scenes are competently shot, and even the performances are much improved (although Lautner as Jacob Black has acting skills which still can't match his physique). And while there is a conclusion to the movie, there is one more book to be adapted into a film, Breaking Dawn, which will in fact be split into 2 movies. No doubt, there is still more drama to come. (3.5 out ot 5, by Carlisle Johnson)
Bella and Edward have been reunited, but their forbidden relationship is threatened to be torn apart again with an evil vampire still seeking her revenge.
And Bella is forced to choose between her true love for Edward or her friendship with Jacob Black as the struggles between vampires and werewolves continues.
But there is still another choice for Bella to make, mortality or immortality?
