Blending in the Rainbow Nation takes a critical and detailed look
at the young generation in post-Apartheid South Africa and examines
ways in which members of the group relate to and engage with the
post-Apartheid process of social and political reconciliation. To
investigate whether and to what extent such processes are in fact
taking place, Tihanyi focuses on the institution of the school,
each one carefully chosen to represent the full range of economic
and racial diversity present in the Cape Town area of South Africa.
Based on ethnographic fieldwork, this book presents the schools
through vignettes rich in detail, which in turn feeds into an
analysis of the success and failures of racial integration and the
consequent impact of these processes on reconciliation. In addition
to presenting an analysis of the present situation, this
wonderfully clear and well-written work also proposes potential
solutions to some of the current challenges being faced.
