Burnt Offerings is as exciting and satisfying as all the 6 others that come before it. Laurell K. Hamilton is such a talented writer that she pulls you into her world and before you know it, several hours have passed, you’re finished reading the book, and hoping the next one will be out REAL soon. Burnt Offerings has Anita helping the police with an outbreak of serious fires throughout St. Louis. Anita believes the culprit may be a "firebug," a being who uses supernatural power to cause conflagrations. To top it all off the vampire council has arrived in St Louis, taking over The Circus of the Damned to investigate Jean-Claude, Richard and Anita, whom they view as a menace to their power. Some of these ancient beings have secret agendas, which make it almost unfeasible for our group of three to endure the trials and tribulations the council demands of them. Anita is put in a position where she is forced to rescue not only friends, but enemies as well. The humour, dark as always, adds much to the story and there are plenty of laughs to offset the violence. On the whole, I cannot recommend this series enough. "Burnt Offerings" is Ms. Hamilton’s most complex novel thus far.
