"Cultural Studies" is an international journal committed to
exploring the relationships between cultural practices and everyday
life, economic relations, the material world, the state and
historical forces and contexts. In this issue, theorists turn their
attention to matters of the environment. The editors have brought
together a variety of contributions (including 2 book reviews) for
a special section on the environment in order to highlight the
potential of cultural studies to enhance understanding of
environmental matters and to suggest its applicability as a
theoretical basis for environmental activism. In addition to the
special section on the environment, this issue of "Cultural
Studies" includes two articles that continue and further a central
debate in cultural studies: the role of the reception of media in
postcolonial societies.
