The author will be found somewhat singular in his illustrations and
forms of expression. But his very singularity adds strength to his
great thoughts and stamps them on the mind of the reader. Of the
merit of these Meditations it is unnecessary to say anything. They
have won recommendation from those most competent to form a proper
judgment. The deep, solid, practical thought of the writer is
unquestionable. This translation is literal almost to great
faultiness; and it is, as far as possible, an English echo of the
Italian original.
