This salty, satirical comedy is great fun, provided that you don’t take it even remotely seriously!
Army librarian Joe Bauers (Luke Wilson) – an average man in all respects – and a prostitute known as “Rita” (Maya Rudolph), are selected as guinea pigs for a year-long secret military hibernation project. The pair are sealed into coffin-like chambers…but are then inadvertently forgotten about! Five hundred years later, the containers (unearthed in the 'Great Garbage Avalanche of 2505') are jarred open, and the two find themselves in a very strange new world that is occupied by very retarded people indeed. For starters: Comacho, the President of the United States, is a semi-illiterate porn star/wrestler!
Joe is arrested. He has no trouble in escaping from jail; but before doing so, he completes an IQ test that proves him to be the smartest man in the world! This fact is soon brought to President Comacho’s attention, and Joe is summonsed to advise (and act) on several high-level matters; starting with the world’s food shortage. He discovers that water has been replaced by Brawndo – a sports drink rich in electrolytes – that is even for irrigating crops!
...Need I go on…?
Offbeat sci-fi comedy starring Luke Wilson. In 2005, Private Joe
Bowers (Wilson) is a soldier chosen to take part in a secret
military scientific experiment in which he will be put into induced
hibernation for one year, along with a woman named Rita (Maya
Rudolph). Bowers is chosen for the assignment because he is
statistically the most average man in the army, while Rita is a
hooker ordered to do community service. Unfortunately, Bowers and
Rita are forgotten about when the military base where the
experiment took place is closed down, and when they wake up in the
year 2505. Bowers finds himself living in a society where
intelligence has taken such a landslide he's now the smartest man
in the world.
