Hunters & Gatherers living in harmony with the land and their natural environment communicating through one of the most complex languages in the world, a creative and peaceful people with no weapons of war, no fixed hierarchies and a formidable reputation for hunting and tracking across virtually any type of terrain.
A San arrow is the smart missile of the late stone age, dipped in poison and does not kill the animal straight away but instead causes death over a period of hours.
San spirituality is expressed in rock paintings and cave art dating back up to 30000 years to be found in rocky areas across the western and eastern cape as well as KwaZulu-Natal.
By putting paint to rocks the San believe to open portals to the spirit world therefore their art holds deeply symbolic and religious meaning.
We have used some of the art as backdrop to the dial of this artistic piece and chosen the Bow and Arrow as motives for the hour and minute hand.
We encourage everyone to study and learn more about the incredible history of the San and the challenges they face today.
There is a deep fascination in understanding more about the knowledge they have acquired over tens of thousands of years and how we all are effectively descendants of the San from an ancestral point of view.
