I bought this mouse as a replacement for an earlier model of Microsoft compact optical mouse, whose wheel had begun to fail. In general, it's very good: there are plenty of customizable options for speed, button functions, and so on. Physically, the mouse works well, and is responsive. My one complaint, and the reason I can't quite award top marks, is that this mouse has the shortest cable I have ever seen on one, and considerably shorter than that on the earlier model I was replacing. This is presumably because a compact mouse is designed mainly for laptop users, whose USB ports are likely to be close to their mouse; however, for desktop users, this may be a problem depending on the relative locations of their hardware.
