In coal mining, the load hauling dumpers move on roads for a longer
duration and are so subjected to more number of times and longer
durations of failures. Further, any small failures in these
machines add to unpredictable loss and damages at times. In view of
this, they have to be maintained properly. The Reliability Centered
Maintenance (RCM) Models are better suitable than ordinary
preventive maintenance techniques to control the failures. An
effort is made in this direction through this book. The field data
of failures (in terms of number of failures and tbf) for the past 3
years is collected and analyzed by using various statistical tools
and RCM models to establish the maintenance frequency and scheduled
accordingly with reliability orientation instead of mere time based
maintenance. The trend analysis by both analytical/graphical
methods provides a direction to determine if the failures are
i.i.d. which in turn can be put in HPP or NHPP or Renewable Process
depending exponential fit. The goodness of fit tests and
reliability growth models can pave the way to calculate the
maintenance intervals with reliability orientation.
