From the brothers who directed the hits There's Something About Mary
, Shallow Hal
and Me, Myself & Irene
, comes their brand-new raunch-com, and while not as brilliant as ...Mary
, it's still quite funny and has a few surprises in its story as well.
Two best friends are given the "week off marriage" by their wives, who are hoping it will make the men realize that the single life is not as fun as they might hope. Of course the guys are over the moon and brimming with excitement as they plan to have as much fun as they can during this time. Things don't go so smoothly however, and I won't spoil it any further, but suffice it to say this is an above-average comedy that is worth recommending.
The acting is more than decent, especially the varied cameos from comedians whom you might not know by name but whose faces you can certainly place. And as for the 2 leads, Jason Sudeikis actually does a better job than Owen Wilson, whose sad-sack routine is getting a bit old. And as this is a Farrelly Brothers' movie, be prepared for quite a bit of edginess. But in a funny way of course. (3.5 out of 5, by Carlisle Johnson)
Rick and Fred are best friends who have a lot in common, including the fact that they have each been married for many years.
But when the two men begin to show signs of restlessness at home, their wives take a bold approach to revitalizing their individual marriages: granting them a "hall pass", one week of freedom to do whatever they want... no questions asked.
