Achieving food security and self-reliance have been the cherished
goals of agricultural policy in India. The introduction and rapid
spread of modern varieties have resulted in a steady growth in
agricultural output. The innovation in technology is one of the
most important factors affecting crop production. Total factor
productivity is an important instrument to evaluate the performance
of any production system, and it indicates whether production
growth is taking place in a cost effective and sustainable manner.
Sustainable growth necessitates faster growth in output as compared
to that in input. This is possible only by shift in production
function through technical change. The present study has been
conducted with the following specific objectives: (i)to examine the
behaviour of input-output prices, factor share and total factor
productivity, (ii) to estimate the factor demand, output supply and
consumer demand elasticity, (iii) to compute the marketed surplus
elasticity with respect to factor price, product price and
technology, and(iv) to measure the effect the price and non-price
factors on factor demand, output supply and marketed surplus and
its implication towards food secu
