Musical comedy starring Queen Latifah and Dolly Parton. In an
impoverished Georgia town, the death of gospel choir director
Bernard Sparrow (Kris Kristofferson) sparks changes in the lives of
two of the choir's members. Vi Rose Hill (Queen Latifah), Sparrow's
second-in-command, is named as his replacement - but Bernard's
widow, G.G. (Parton), a wealthy benefactress of the church,
believes she should have been given the position. These two
formidable women lock horns over the direction of the choir as it
heads towards a national competition.
