Fixed Prosthodontics is the branch of Prosthodontics that deals
with replacement of missing tooth or teeth and associated
structures by means of prosthesis that can't be removed by the
patient Biologically acceptable fixed Prosthodontic treatment
demands that prepared teeth be protected and stabilized with
provisional restorations that resemble the form and function of the
definitive Prosthesis. They are essential in the maintenance of
periodontal health and protection of pulp from thermal insult. This
is especially useful with treatment involving esthetic need of the
patient. Variety of materials and techniques are available for
fabrication of temporary fixed prosthesis. It may be preformed or
customized. It is the choice of the Prosthodontist to select an
appropriate material and technique to fabricate the interim
restoration based on the clinical presentation and patients need.
