This commentary on the Gospel of Thomas discovered in Nag Hammadi
in 1945 consists of an introduction, criteria for the study of
historical Jesus and a detailed commentary on all 114 logies of the
Gospel of Thomas. He contradicts the claim of a Gnostic origin of
the logies and also contradicts the dependence of the Gospel of
Thomas on the Synoptic or the Gospel of John. Rather, the Gospel of
Thomas contains traditions that are independent of the Synoptics
and the Gospel of John and belongs to the area of early Jewish
Christianity.
