Humans are the only species who are capable of considering their
own existence - of forming a self-identity. Intuition has
historically been the wellspring of notions which address
rhetorical questions about our identity and purpose. These concepts
are embodied in classical religion. However, Darwin's publication
of Origin of the Species in 1859, profoundly changed the nature of
our identity. Suddenly, we became "just another part" of the
natural world. The theory of evolution is well founded but is
denied by a majority of people the world over. The Human Identity
Problem discusses the consequences which face humanity if we
continue to misconstrue our own identity.
