Starring Roger Moore, Telly Savalas, David Niven, Elliot Gould, Claudia Cardinale, Stefanie Powers, and Richard Roundtree.
Despite the WWII action, this one never makes the mistake of taking itself too seriously.
A German POW camp on a Greek island is the site of archaeological diggings, where the allied prisoners enjoy a somewhat comfortable life under the commandant: antiquest-loving Major Otto Hecht (Roger Moore.) Meanwhile, the strong Greek resistance movement under Zeno (Telly Savalas) is preparing for the landing of the Allies. The overtaking of the camp is a part of this plan. Another task is to destroy the missile launching pad (located in a nearby monastery).
The POWs include Professor Blake (David Niven), a peace-time archaeologist; Charlie, Dottie and Nat (Elliot Gould, Stefanie Powers, and Richard Rountree respectively) who are entertainers; and Bruno, an Italian chef. Eleana (Claudia Cardinale) is Zeno’s girlfriend.
Roger Moore’s Teutonic looks more than make up for what he lacks with a German accent, but who cares? The whole thing is rather good fun anyway.
Hitler's plan to loot a treasure-laden Greek island is under way. A prison camp is built where the inmates dig up priceless art under the eye of the Austrian commandant Major Otto Hecht.
Zeno, the island's resistance leader and Eleana scheme to defeat the occupiers. Leading a group of freedom fighters, they clash with the Nazis as they try to save the condemned prisoners and the treasure hidden in the mountaintop monastery.
