In particular, Rinaldo's discovery that Venafro could have very well been Pontius Pilate's city of residence, while a prefect in Judea, made him question all his life, family roots, origin and heritage. Not only Rinaldo discovered being of Jewish ancestry, but also Pilate, a Samnite as well, might have been. In Venafro, the author also discovered the strong influence on the community, especially on his mother, by a permanent gipsy community, known as "Zingari of Venafro."
