Despite the bloodshed, (mass decapitation by helicopter does create this state of affairs, I’m afraid), this is still a very good movie!
An unexplained rabies-related virus has swept Great Britain. Don Harris (Robert Carlyle) and his family are about to sit down for a meal when they are set about by a well-organised pack of the infected. Cowardly Don escapes down-river, alone.
After 28 days, the country is deemed safe, and both Tammy (Imogen Poots) and Andy (Mugglestone) are reunited with their father. However, they soon learn that, unlike what he’s told them, their mother is still alive! And this is where the picture really starts.
On the recommendation of medical officer Selina (Naimi Harris.) Sergeant Doyle (Jeremy Renner) opts to directly disobey an order to shoot everybody at ground level, in order to save the lives of the young Harris children – whose blood might just be the key to conquering the epidemic.
Yeah, this one’s purdy good, with some great shots of a “dead” London. Tense, yes…but good! Bottom line? It’s a kinda well-crafted blend of “Day of the Triffids” and “War of the Worlds”… and maybe one or two of the other old cinematic classics as well.
Sequel to the 'what would happen if' premise of '28 Days Later'
(2002) where Britain has been devastated by the release of a virus
which turns the victim into a murderous rage. This time around,
it's six months later and the US military have managed to restore
order in the population. Unfortunately, one of the returning
refugees is carrying the virus, and it won't be long before a
pandemic spreads.
