Brilliant! That's the first attribute that comes to mind after watching this truly original zinger of a film. The script may be complex, but that just means you get to sit through it quite a few times to enjoy it all the more. Robert Downey Jr. and Val Kilmer give the performances of their lives, as unlikely partners trying to solve a murder mystery. Their rapid dialogue is filled to the brim with zippy wisecracks and hilarious one-liners. And their screen chemistry is undeniable.
Shane Black makes his directing debut here, after writing action classics like Lethal Weapon and The Last Boy Scout, and he is essentially paying homage to the film-noir detective classics of the 40's and 50's, albeit with quite a few modern twists. And he definitely pulls it off, making this one of the most original films since The Usual Suspects.
A terrific cast, an excitingly involving plot, and a director who's a master of the genre - all the ingredients for a true classic. Definitely one for your collection. (5 out of 5, by Carlisle Johnson)
They say love and money don't mix, but you can't blame Harry Lockhart for trying. He's been whisked from a life of petty crime to Hollywood, where he'll audition for the role of a movie detective and be tutored for the part by a private eye. Now all Harry has to do is convince the dream girt he meets that he's an actual detective. And try not to stumble over the corpses as reel life abruptly gives way to the real.
Lights, camera, plenty of action! Shane Black (Lethal Weapon) provides the screenplay and makes his directing debut in a clever fusion of buddy movie and hardboiled noir produced by Joel Silver. Robert Downey Jr., Val Kilmer and Michelle Monaghan play the thrust-together trio - a naive schemer, a tough-as-nails gay detective, and a hopeful actress clinging to her dream.
Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang. Watch Watch.

Hilarious, inventive and very witty. The story moves at such a fast pace, your attention is needed throughout. But there are times when you are gonna have to rewind a scene because you couldn't hear the dialogue because you were laughing so much. One of my favourite movies of all time. Robert Downey rocks!
