Osborn, an English officer, employed his leisure time to draw up
brief historical sketches of the races (Indian) from which the
native army is chiefly recruited. His objective was to provide
young officers with the knowledge needed to better understand the
men they had to command in the field and in quarters. The Contents

of Yezid Ibn Mouhalleb; The Decline of the Ommayas; The Abbasides;
and The Fall of the Ommayas.
